Backraising like a boss!!
Jumped into the GPP tonight. Was expecting a quick exit and thought about the freeroll tourney the other night and how that went down and decided I was going to try something different. Instead of raising behind a limper I was going to limp behind with a good hand, hope that someone would raise, and then try to get the money in. This of course if I had enough money to do that which at first I did not since I didn't bother taking the add-on. 51 players left when I jumped in and I did not have much hope in this being a long tournament. He had 99. His line looked like total bullshit and I was a little pissed that he called me with AT on the hand before so I am giving him NO respect. Basically a race situation that I'm happy to be in with the money in that pot. Put me out of my misery early or give me some chips to play with.
And of course the hand history skips my next big hand that is really the key hand in this tournament that I wanted to cover. Fortunately their silly video hand history has it so here goes. Blinds 125/250-30 at this point. UTG limps, I'm UTG+1 with A♠Q♣ and this is where I get tricky and limp behind. Folded to button who limps behind. SB completes and BB makes it 750. UTG calls, I shove now for my final 3660. Button folds, SB folds, and BB folds! UTG decides to call! He shows A♦3♥ and I get a clean runout to bring my stack up to ~8k which is over average at this point.
So I must point out that I called the other guy out for doing that with 99 so in fairness my line looks like total bullshit as well. But my goal isn't to get everyone to fold, it's to get it in with the best hand and to be able to see all 5 cards. A hand like AQ whiffs the flop most of the time and I'm put in a spot where I am not sure if I should continue or not, and a hand like JJ can easily flop overcards so that's also a tricky spot. Surprised the BB folded after raising, but his raise sizing is atrocious anyway; can't raise only to 3bb on top of 3 limpers. So GTFO.
Run a little bad after that and maybe a mistake here trying to force the BB all-in?

Another spot where I was licking my chops to backraise. BB made a comment that it was time for him to ship it but he ended up checking. After the flop with the minbetting I just could not find the fuckin fold button. This guy did this a few other times though, so hard for me to let it go there. Probably need to at least fold turn now that I'd be behind a Q as well. He had the absolute goods.
So this actually worked out that there was no raise cause this guy was not going to go anywhere with A♠Q♠ and I would have been out of it. Find myself as one of the shorter stacks and shove an Ax hand, take the blinds/antes down, then get A8o shortly after and shove again. Get called by 88 and spike an A on the flop and leave him dead to the last 8 in the deck which he does not get. That puts me over 10k as we are now down to the final 2 tables.
So at that point still in shove/fold mode as I managed to basically stay around 10k for awhile. Had to forfeit my blinds to the big stack on my left, but managed to push some pairs and Ax type of hands and did not get called once. We got down to 12 and I was feeling good but the short stacks kept doubling up so I had to keep my foot on the gas. Went card dead just long enough though to drop to ~7k when two guys went all-in and the big stack had KK and flopped a set to boot. So we got 2 eliminations and while that was going on someone got eliminated at the other table, so we entered the final table with 8 players.
We high card for the button, I end up being 3rd to act on the first hand and shove A9o. It gets through and I take the blinds/antes. Then a blunder:

Thought I had an open-ender here but it was just a gutshot. Misread the hand completely and shoved on it. Can't believe I got that one through and right after that hand we got a much needed 5 minute break.Some crazy shit happens after that and without even playing a hand we see a bunch of eliminations and we are all of a sudden down to the final 3. Went to 7, played 6 hands with 7 of us, then had a hand where two people were knocked out, then the very next hand after that we were down to 4, then 3 the very next hand after that one. So because I am not in any of these pots I am badly outchipped and need to do something.

OG raiser ended up having AQ here and it held up. Right before he shoved he typed in the chat "time for bed". That in my book looked like a sign of strength so I mucked pretty quickly and glad I did. Turned out it was his bedtime though as the very next hand he jammed A9 and BB woke up with JJ and after a flop of J55 that was all she wrote. So that brought us to the final 3.

He had 55 and gg me. Didn't like the spot I was in when he shoved, figured I'm probably a dog here but felt that I needed to gamble with my stack and couldn't leave that 15k out there. I was actually in good shape to be flipping there. $6.75 for 3rd. I will gladly take that considering I went in as I said expecting it to be a quick evening and that puts me up to $28.87. Obviously not an impressive amount of money but enjoying the challenge of building a roll from nothing.

Another spot where I was licking my chops to backraise. BB made a comment that it was time for him to ship it but he ended up checking. After the flop with the minbetting I just could not find the fuckin fold button. This guy did this a few other times though, so hard for me to let it go there. Probably need to at least fold turn now that I'd be behind a Q as well. He had the absolute goods.
So this actually worked out that there was no raise cause this guy was not going to go anywhere with A♠Q♠ and I would have been out of it. Find myself as one of the shorter stacks and shove an Ax hand, take the blinds/antes down, then get A8o shortly after and shove again. Get called by 88 and spike an A on the flop and leave him dead to the last 8 in the deck which he does not get. That puts me over 10k as we are now down to the final 2 tables.
So at that point still in shove/fold mode as I managed to basically stay around 10k for awhile. Had to forfeit my blinds to the big stack on my left, but managed to push some pairs and Ax type of hands and did not get called once. We got down to 12 and I was feeling good but the short stacks kept doubling up so I had to keep my foot on the gas. Went card dead just long enough though to drop to ~7k when two guys went all-in and the big stack had KK and flopped a set to boot. So we got 2 eliminations and while that was going on someone got eliminated at the other table, so we entered the final table with 8 players.
We high card for the button, I end up being 3rd to act on the first hand and shove A9o. It gets through and I take the blinds/antes. Then a blunder:

Thought I had an open-ender here but it was just a gutshot. Misread the hand completely and shoved on it. Can't believe I got that one through and right after that hand we got a much needed 5 minute break.Some crazy shit happens after that and without even playing a hand we see a bunch of eliminations and we are all of a sudden down to the final 3. Went to 7, played 6 hands with 7 of us, then had a hand where two people were knocked out, then the very next hand after that we were down to 4, then 3 the very next hand after that one. So because I am not in any of these pots I am badly outchipped and need to do something.

OG raiser ended up having AQ here and it held up. Right before he shoved he typed in the chat "time for bed". That in my book looked like a sign of strength so I mucked pretty quickly and glad I did. Turned out it was his bedtime though as the very next hand he jammed A9 and BB woke up with JJ and after a flop of J55 that was all she wrote. So that brought us to the final 3.

He had 55 and gg me. Didn't like the spot I was in when he shoved, figured I'm probably a dog here but felt that I needed to gamble with my stack and couldn't leave that 15k out there. I was actually in good shape to be flipping there. $6.75 for 3rd. I will gladly take that considering I went in as I said expecting it to be a quick evening and that puts me up to $28.87. Obviously not an impressive amount of money but enjoying the challenge of building a roll from nothing.
