Fantasy Football Spreadsheet

A few days ago I was looking online for a point calculator for fantasy football (too cheap to spend the $10 on StatTracker). Something where I can enter the players stats and calculate the total points. Unable to find one, I made it myself, in excel. I figure it might be useful to someone who happens to come across this post, so here's the link to it. It uses the default yahoo league configurations, so if your league is different you'll have to go and change some of the numbers in the formulas, or positions, or whatever. Otherwise you put the stats in the left hand column, and the points will appear on the right. I made it so there are no partial points, and so it rounds down. For example, if your QB has 249 passing yards, you will get exactly 9 points, not 10, not 9.9. The only points it does not calculate is points allowed for team defenses. You will have to manually enter it on the right hand column yourself. I have provided the guide for yahoo leagues. So there you have i

Trip

I uploaded some photos of mostly Wrigley and Michigan Stadium. Overall, I had a very good time. Wrigley was nice, Cubs won in a high scoring contest, 13-8. There were 3 or 4 line drive HRs over the left field wall we got a good view off (all of which would have been singles at Fenway by the way). Soriano, Lee, and Ramirez all hit dingers. Saturday was the main event however. Got to Ann Arbor at about 11 for the 3:30 game, walked around a little and then went to the Penn State rally. The Michigan fans were actually very nice. I'm sure it's different when Ohio State comes to town, but I was impressed with the civility shown between two Big Ten powerhouses. Maybe they're just more humble after losing to App State, dunno. By the way, quite a few PSU fans wearing ASU t-shirts to the game. A few also had shirts that said "Pennsylvania State is HOT HOT HOT" (reference to this ). Get into the stadium around 2, about an hour later the bands take the field. Really nice pre

Midwest Trip

In a few hours I'll be off to the airport to spend the last day of summer and first day of fall attending a few sporting events. Later today I'll be at Wrigley Field to see the Cubs take on the Butt Pirates, and then Saturday I'm in Ann Arbor to see Penn State take on Michigan. It'll be my first time at either venue, I'm looking forward to it. When I got the Cubs tickets back in July, there were a good amount of seats available. Today, not a seat to be had. It's the last home series of the season at Wrigley, fans should be into it. The Cubs haven't been in contention this late in the season since 2004, and they come into today 1.5 games ahead of the Brewers in the NL Central. Then there's Michigan. They completely shit the bed against Oregon 2 weeks ago (as I predicted), but looked really strong against Notre Dame last week (which I didn't see coming). However, with Henne sidelined and Freshman QB Ryan Mallet at the helm, the Wolverines depended m

Thoughts on PNL

I haven't posted in a few weeks, so I guess this is as good a time as any to give my thoughts on Professional No Limit Hold'em. To be honest, I was somewhat disappointed with this book. It was rather elementary, much like that surveys course I took in college. That's not to say there aren't a few nuggets, but not a wealth of new information like No Limit Hold'em: Theory and Practice. PNL is divided into five parts (really four, the fifth part is basically a hand quiz). The first part, basics, should be a review for anyone who has been playing no limit for some time. The authors don't discuss complete beginner stuff like "reading the board" and "identifying the nuts", but they talk about odds and outs, stack sizes, and bet sizes. The next part, fundamentals, talks mostly about pots; pot sizes, pot control, and a few other similar items. There's not much new stuff in here. However, I will say that the authors did make a good point when di

Great way to start the football season. I was actually at the FIU/Penn St. game (a 59-0 blowout) and the Stadium went nuts every time the PA announcer would announce the score of the Michigan game. I cheered as well, even though they beat my alma mater in the Championship game last year. I didn't actually think until sometime in the 3rd quarter wiht App St. up by 2 scores that the Mountaineers could actually win the game. Everyone thought it was amazing when UNH beat Northwestern last year. But that was a case of a top 1-AA team beating a struggling Big Ten team that was recovering from tragically losing its head coach. Michigan is the #5 team in the country, the odds-on favorite to win the Big Ten, and a contender for the national title. While App St. is the 2-time defending 1-AA champions, they aren't in the same class. It would be like the Red Sox getting swept by the Yankees, the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees. I don't want to take credit away from App St. however. They
