One and Done

Late registered for the $50 level 4 tourney tonight. Waited basically until the last minute and got in with blinds at 250/500-50 and 5k starting stack. Had 30 at 1 point and were down to 15 left but a few more people had the same idea and got in right as I did. First hand I'm UTG and I just have this feeling that I'm going to get something I will have to play. And I do: K♠Q ♥ . I got just under 10 big blinds after posting the ante and with being the BB next hand I have to take a shot with this hand. So I shove. Next two players fold and then the next player uses some of his time bank, then folds. Gets pretty quickly folded to the BB, who takes a few seconds to call. Dang. By that point I was hoping to just pick up the pot and collect a round of blinds and antes. His cards are revealed: J ♦ J♠. The flop comes A ♥ J♣9♣. I'm dead to a gutshot. 7♣ on the turn, 2 ♦ on the river and I'm out after just one hand. Zero regrets about how I played it though. Even against the

Leveling Up

Time to use my level 3 ticket. Based on how the last one went with managing to sneak in with not ever having much more than my starting stack, I decided to register in the last level of late registration. 26 left at that point with 11 getting the seats and 12th getting close to $50. This time we start with 2500 and at the 75/150 level with a 15 ante. Played two hands that I folded preflop and then get moved to another table. How this site does table moves is ridiculous at times. They put me and 1 other player at the table and had us high card for the button and play a hand before they filled the rest of the table. I won the high card. Blinds just went up to 100/200-20 and I got dealt T ♣ ️ 3 ♦ ️ which I raised to 600. BB must have just registered right before this hand since he had his full stack of 2500. He uses his entire 90 second time bank and mucks it, lol.  Few hands later I pick up Q ♠ ️ J ♥ ️ in the CO and I open for 600. BB calls and he has me covered by a lot. Flop come

Onto Step 3 and in the most improbable fashion. Started with 3000 in chips and did not get much above the 3k the entire time. That's me with the 1927 left at the end. Tourney actually started with 15 runners but by the end of the late registration/re-entry period we had 79. Because this was not a freeroll and had a buy-in attached to it each subsequent entry added to the prize fund and they ended up giving $16 Step 3 tickets to 28 players while there was $11.72 left for 29th. Truth be told the 29th prize would have been better for me since I could have used it in a cash game or SnGs, but I'll take the tourney ticket given my small stack the whole way. Nothing really spectacular happening was not getting much for cards, had a few hands where I tried to steal the blinds and got repopped and had to fold, other hands where I got pushed out of the pot postflop, although I did win a couple of pots as well. One particular hand however I was close to steaming when we

Feels great to break through and win one of these. Been playing well but getting no luck from the cards. Got my money in good when I bused all but one time when I had 10BB left and decided to shove 7 ♦️ 6 ♦️ one off the button only to get called by 9 ♣️ 5 ♣️ by the BB which held up unimproved. Joke. Anyway here's how I got to the result depicted in the pic above. This was actually a satellite tourney to a step 2 $6+$.60 tournament and had 608 entries originally and 12 getting tickets. I registered late with ~350 left I believe about an hour into the tournament (just before entries were closed).  Start with 4k in chips in thi s one and did not go well at the beginning. Was down to 2500 when I picked up Q ♣️ J ♥️ UTG (we were 7 handed) and shoved in EP with 200/400 blinds (and an ante of 50). Player to my immediate left shoves himself for 28k total and everyone else folds. He has A ♦️ 7 ♦️ and we both whiff the flop but I hit running queens on the turn and river
