Vegas - Not what I expected

Unfortunately there's really nothing to report from my Vegas trip poker wise. Lost $20 in a 9/6 video poker machine and that was the extent of my gambling. Just too far away from the casinos that offered good poker action and there was too much other stuff on the itinerary to get over to one of them. Didn't get a chance to get over to the Rio to check out the WSOP either, ah well.

Little disappointed at the offerings; what I posted Sunday applies to a lot of the places on the strip as well. Went on Tuesday (really the only chance I got to go out on my own and do some exploring) to a lot of the casinos down there and the Flamingo was the only casino that had a limit game going. Considered jumping in but said fuck it and just walked around and explored the strip some more. One of the people in our group did play a tournament at the Wynn and finished in the top 3 (the remaining players decided to end the tourney right there and split the prize pool).

But for me there was plenty to hold my interest as opposed to poker. I was there primarily for a bowling tournament we had a day of practice and then 2 days of bowling the actual tournament on a very demanding lane condition so wanted to focus on that because they put out a very demanding lane condition and I wanted to bowl my best. The tourney was held at South Point (which also had a 15ish table poker room with hold'em only) and the tournament facility and the other bowling alley they have there are absolutely fantastic. The stadium part where the tournament was held is something special and even the other lanes where they hold leagues & open bowling and had the practice sessions is very nice as well.

Ended up averaging 184 for the 9 games that we bowled, with a high game of 232. The patterns we bowled on were extremely difficult and required me to really slow down my ball speed to get the ball to hook up to the pocket. Also being left handed put me at a disadvantage as it didn't break down at all (had 1 other lefty with me day 1 and two other lefties day 2). If you're not familiar with bowling the more balls that go down the lane the more oil that gets taken off and less oil = more hook so since and there's obviously a lot more right handed people than left handed people so that side gets dried up. Since there's a lot of oil that gets put out at this tournament you can go an entire session without seeing much of a difference in the left side, which is exactly what happened. Fortunately my spare shooting was on point for the most part and I'll probably finish somewhere in the top 1/3 in the all-events. The bad news is that they only pay 1 out of 4 so I probably won't cash (the tourney goes on until the middle of July so if enough people bowl bad enough then perhaps there's a shot) but for my first time out I was looking to not fall flat on my face and I accomplished that.

I plan on being back in Vegas in two years because the tourney is back there in 2019. Next year we head to Syracuse, NY which means that Turning Stone is an option during our trip. As for me playing live poker in the future Cheers Poker Room opening about 15 miles away from where I live sometime during the summer and the owner is really committed to poker from what I've read on twoplustwo. Hoping we'll see some different games spread and plan on checking it out.

For now back to the silly online action that's still holding my interest.
