Not a bad start to freeroll "season"

As I mentioned prior my Sunday nights are free for the summer and through Labor Day Weekend so barring any last minute plans I'll be playing this for the next 3 months. Did well tonight in my first one.

330 runners tonight so a top 10% finish so really happy about that. A few pretty well played hands I thought, including this one early on:

Tournament #2744087 - Level 3

hero raises [150]
seat5 calls [110] Ok I take a stab at raising here. He calls but I'm just really not buying that he has much of a hand.
** Dealing River ** [ 2
]
seat5: bets [40]
hero raises [795] Alright motherfucker, raise pot. If you pick me off, so be it. I think he may have called the turn with either a draw or A high and even in a freeroll I think I can get him off of those here. It's a little bit of an overbet perhaps but I felt like I needed to bring it for full pot to have any chance of this succeeding.
seat5 folds
hero shows [ 6
, 5 ] two pairs, sevens and twos
hero wins 755 from main pot with two pairs, sevens and twos [ Td, 7d, 7s, 2c, 2d ] It worked and I showed him the hand. I can't stand min-betting.

Little bit later, same villain:

seat5 folds
hero shows [ J
, J ] three of a kind, jacks He folded after deliberating and I decide to show him that I'm not running him over in case I need to steal his blind later.
hero wins 2275 from main pot

From there basically just involved in small pots until we get to the break. Had 110 left at that point with 60 paying so I needed a double up badly. They changed the pay structure I believe because it used to be 70 that made the money if I recall correctly. Anyways was looking for that opportunity to shove as the blinds/antes kept creeping up and was denied first in vig every time. A lot of times it was the big stack that was just limping in. Finally I had to raise his limp with A
7 and just gamble knowing that he was going to call (and possibly others might call or reraise as well). But it was heads up against his K8 and my small advantage held up.

At that point the blinds came around again and didn't have good enough hands to play. Noticed there were 73 left and players seemed to be dropping like flies. A hand later, 69 left. I decided I was going to just fold my way into the money. Had about 1250 after posting the blinds and was anteing 85 every hand. Ended up timing down and then folding each hand, even folded AK one time. The strategy worked as I ended up in the money while in middle position.

After securing the top 60 I had A3o 3rd to act and shoved. Ended up all-in against the player to my left who had only a little more than the ante behind and ended up putting it in. Lost to his AT, but made a profit on the hand with the side pot. Two hands later shoved 76o UTG and got called by a player who had just 27 behind and made a profit again even though I lost to his AK.

Posted the BB then got moved to another table and ended up open-shoving Ah7h, getting heads up against a big stacks KT, and doubling up. Had over 12k at that point but with blinds 600/1200 with a 150 ante I couldn't get too excited. Eventually poor starting hands forced me to keep folding and that stack was down to 7500 with blinds now 700/1400-175. Went with T9o UTG and got flatted by a big stack in MP. Everyone else folded and he had JJ. Not sure why he was only flatting there but regardless I'm in rough shape. He actually flopped a set but with the board being JKAx on the turn I still had 3 outs to a broadway straight. River was a blank though and that was it.

So another deep run in this that was a bit different than my prior strong finishes in this freeroll. Instead of relying on getting paid off with my good hands to build a stack early I started things by making a pretty big bluff, then relied on mostly survival to get into the money and stepped on the gas from there. If I could have picked up a hand or two when I got up to 12k, could still be playing right now. They're down to the final table as I'm typing this, hoping I can make one in these next 3 months.
