Hit by the motherfucking deck

Check this shit out. Had nothing going on last night and figured with it being x-mas eve we'd get a small turnout in the $50 nightly tournament. Ended up still being a decent turnout with 35 left when I jumped in right before end of rebuy/add-on. I did take the add-on to get effectively a 4500 starting stack. A few hands in:

I thought I'd try for a little pot control by checking flop, figured I'd pick it up with a bet on the turn, just can't respect the turn min-checkraise considering I underrepped my hand. So I go with it and he ended up having A6, so surprisingly checked it back on the flop with top pair as well.

Actually was up against JT there so had to fade some outs but I did and now I have the chip lead.

I actually sit with that stack for awhile winning a few small pots to stay at the 23k mark and then this:

Think I probably misplayed this hand on the flop given his stack size. Should have put him to a decision right then and there instead of checking. Once he pots it I know he's not folding to a shove, but I have a ton of outs here against a top pair type of hand so gotta go with it. Turned out he had A8 and I get there on the turn.

Play tight for awhile, don't pick up much in the way of cards and sit back and let the other players knock each other out. We're close to the final table though and I'm getting impatient.

Don't think I misplayed this but hate folding to the stop & go when I get zero respect when I do it. But I can't see calling this off with just A high. Fortunately I got back to back walks in the BB to keep my head above water and I was still one of the larger stacks, even though I was at ~18k. A silly hand in the SB after that got me some more chips.

Glad I can make these types of bets in these spots. Obviously I don't like the ace on the flop and in a cash game I probably check this back most of the time but here given the situation I have to put him to a decision for his remaining stack (very close to the money). Probably did not get him off a better hand (although a weak ace has a tough decision here) but happy to take down an important pot.

I would actually like to start knocking people out though:

He had AQ. A few hands later we make it to the final table and I start with the largest stack. But that would not last long as I was pretty card dead and could only watch as the other players busted out and my remaining table mates stacks grew. Got down to 4 handed 3rd in chips but still in it.

Felt like I had to gamble here. I don't think villain is strong with that big shove. Seemed like he was trying to take it down right now. I win this I have a commanding lead going to 3 handed. I really want to win the whole tournament. Turned out he had 77 and we were off to the races and I was not a happy jockey after seeing the 7 on the flop. The case 7 on the river was fine though as I was already drawing dead.

Very next hand:

This would have almost certainly got me to heads up as twister would've only been left with about 5k if I take that one down. But I sucked out against him in that other hand with a flush and now it's his turn. With the other guy busting it ended up being a 3rd place finish rather than a 4th, collecting $6.95 I believe. Wanted to win it all but I'll take it.
