Olines for Idiots

Couple of funny hands tonight on Stars:

BB said, "sigh"
BB said, "you have KJ?"
BB said, "or 44/55"
BB said, "fk i cant fold this"

BB calls $4.00

Pot Size: $16.00 ($0.75 Rake)
BB had K T and LOST (-$7.75)
Hero had 7 6 (a straight, Four to Eight) and WON (+$7.50)

BB said, "wtf"
BB said, "great hand buddy"

Alright I'm not going to blame him for calling but what's with the reaction? I had an OESD on the flop. His raise was giving me 2:1. So I called. Then he gives me a free card on the turn. On the river I figured his likely hand was 3 kings. I believe if he had 44 or 55 he would've bet strong on the turn, building a pot in hopes that I had a king. So I went for the checkraise on the river, because I figured he would both bet and call a raise. So I dunno which street he objects to.

How about another fun hand:

UTG said, "sigh i got AA"

UTG calls all-in for $4.60

Uncalled bet of $0.40 returned to Hero

Pot Size: $17.95 ($0.85 Rake)

UTG had A A and LOST (-$8.85)
Hero had Q Q (four of a kind, Queens) and WON (+$8.25)

UTG said, "nh luckbox"

Against my better judgment:

I said, "you guys are just shooting yourselves in the foot by slowplaying"

UTG said, "im not the FFace that raises with QQ and hits his 2 outer"
UTG said, "chump u were dominated so fo fock urself"

LOL. Criticizing me for raising with QQ before the flop! Wow, just wow. Does this guy really believe you're not supposed to raise before the flop at all? Strange.

Finally, here's one serious hand.

Poker Stars - No Limit Hold'em Cash Game - $0.10/$0.25 Blinds - 6 Players - (LegoPoker HH Converter)

SB: $56.75
BB: $33.45
UTG: $55.30
Hero (MP): $40.90
CO: $25.15
BTN: $5.55

Preflop: Hero is dealt Q Q (6 Players)
UTG folds, Hero raises to $1.00, CO folds, BTN calls $1.00, SB calls $0.90, BB calls $0.75

Flop: ($4) 5 2 7 (4 Players)
SB checks, BB bets $2.50, Hero calls $2.50, BTN calls $2.50, SB folds

Turn: ($11.50) 5 2 7 T (3 Players)
BB bets $6.00, Hero folds, BTN calls all-in for $2.05

Uncalled bet of $3.95 returned to BB

River: ($15.60) 5 2 7 T 3 (2 Players - 1 All-In)

Pot Size: $15.60 ($0.75 Rake)

BB had 2 2 (three of a kind, Deuces) and WON (+$9.30)

BTN had J 8 and LOST (-$5.55)

WHAT A READ. WHAT A READ! WHAT A READ!!! A lot of players go broke here, or at least lose a lot more than they should. Almost everyone I know would raise the flop. Gotta protect your hand! Charge the draws! Find out where you're at! Nonsense. The pot is small, and this player (BB) just bet into 3 opponents (well one checked) including me, the preflop raiser. I put him on either a pocket pair like 99/88/66 trying to "find out where he was at", or a set. Therefore, against this player I am either way ahead or way behind. I didn't think he would lead here with a draw, but I suppose there's a remote possibility that he could have 86 or clubs. So I called, as did the button (indicating a likely drawing hand). SB thankfully folded.

On the turn BB made a modest bet, $6 into $11.50. I had a tough decision to make, but ultimately I decided to pitch it. I really think he checks with 99/88/66. His aggression factor was low (1.25), so I doubt he leads for two streets into multiple opponents without a strong hand, even if they are just over 1/2 pot bets.

Ever hear the saying in baseball "Sometimes the best trades are the ones you don't make"? Well I think in poker, "Sometimes the best played hands are the ones you don't go broke with". Hands like that make a difference between a winning and losing session. Tonight I won $26.25. If I go broke with that hand I'm a $3.70 loser.
