Stud 8b satellite
The other night I noticed Stars had a satellite for the $22 Stud8 SCOOP tournament. Entry was 275 FPPs and a seat was going out to 1 in 5 entries. I thought this was too good to pass up. I entered along with 39 other people and took a shot. Here's some key hands.
Sucked going out as the bubble boy, but it's not so bad. It was a freeroll for one, so I didn't actually lose any money. Also, I can afford to buy into the tournament directly anyway. I thought I played well for the most part. Obviously not my best game but as I stated previously it's either this or Razz if I want to take part in SCOOP.
Tournament - 7 Card Stud High-Low - Level II (50/100), Ante 10 (converter) Seat 1: 1,270 Seat 2: 1,355 Seat 3: 1,320 Hero: 1,445 Seat 5: 2,750 Seat 6: 1,280 Seat 7: 1,680 Seat 8: 900 3rd Street - (1.60 SB) Seat 1: xx xx K Seat 2: xx xx 6 Seat 3: xx xx 3 Hero: 2 Seat 5: xx xx 9 Seat 6: xx xx K Seat 7: xx xx 4 Seat 8: xx xx Q About 12 hands in (and already on the 2nd level). I pickup 2-3-4. The bring in coms in for a raise, but with so few babies out and no aces or fives exposed, I call the bet, hoping to induce calls behind me. Two more players come along. 4th Street - (5.60 SB) Seat 2: xx xx 6 Seat 3: xx xx 3 Hero: 2 Seat 8: xx xx Q I catch paint and toss it. I'm more worried about 37 than 6Q, but I can't continue in this pot. 5th Street - (4.30 BB) Seat 2: xx xx 6 Seat 3: xx xx 3 Seat 8: xx xx Q 6th Street - (7.30 BB) Seat 2: xx xx 6 Seat 3: xx xx 3 Seat 8: xx xx Q River - (9.30 BB) Seat 2: xx xx 6 Seat 3: xx xx 3 Total pot: (9.30 BB) Tournament - 7 Card Stud High-Low - Level II (50/100), Ante 10 (converter) Seat 1: 1,270 Seat 2: 1,355 Seat 3: 1,320 Hero: 1,445 Seat 5: 2,750 Seat 6: 1,280 Seat 7: 1,680 Seat 8: 900 3rd Street - (1.60 SB) Seat 1: xx xx K Seat 2: xx xx 6 Seat 3: xx xx 3 Hero: 2 Seat 5: xx xx 9 Seat 6: xx xx K Seat 7: xx xx 4 Seat 8: xx xx Q 4th Street - (5.60 SB) Seat 2: xx xx 6 Seat 3: xx xx 3 Hero: 2 Seat 8: xx xx Q 5th Street - (4.30 BB) Seat 2: xx xx 6 Seat 3: xx xx 3 Seat 8: xx xx Q 6th Street - (7.30 BB) Seat 2: xx xx 6 Seat 3: xx xx 3 Seat 8: xx xx Q River - (9.30 BB) Seat 2: xx xx 6 Seat 3: xx xx 3 Total pot: (9.30 BB) Results (in white):[color:white] Total pot 930 Tournament - 7 Card Stud High-Low - Level V (150/300), Ante 30, Bring-In 45 (converter) Seat 2: 3,569 Seat 3: 1,890 Seat 4: 3,110 Seat 5: 1,419 Hero: 1,022 Seat 7: 292 Seat 8: 2,852 3rd Street - (1.40 SB) Seat 2: xx xx J Seat 3: xx xx 4 Seat 4: xx xx J Seat 5: xx xx J Hero: T Seat 7: xx xx 9 Seat 8: xx xx J I'm the bring in this hand, nobody raises so onto 4th. Notice though how all 4 jacks were out and two came into the pot. 4th Street - (2.30 SB) Seat 5: xx xx J Hero: T Seat 8: xx xx J I hit split aces and bet it. JQ calls. I would venture he may have paired Qs or is on a straight draw. 5th Street - (2.15 BB) Hero: T Seat 8: xx xx J Now he hits open queens and checks it. I check behind. I did not want to get checkraised. Maybe bet/fold a better line here though? Didn't know enough about the player as I had recently switched tables to take a stab here. 6th Street - (2.15 BB) Hero: T Seat 8: xx xx J He's now checked twice with open queens so now I am going to bet. He calls. He doesn't seem strong, even though it's hard to put him on something besides QQQ or 8T9JQ coming into this pot. River - (4.15 BB) Hero: T Seat 8: xx xx J Now I hit aces up, unless he hit a 3rd queen or made a straight we're good. I'm going to value bet and hope he pays off with Qs or Qs up. Total pot: (6.15 BB) Results: Total pot 1845 Hero: [Td As 3h Ad 6c 4h 3s] (HI: two pair, Aces and Threes) Seat 8: [Kd 2d Jd Qc Qh 8h 9s] He started with 3 diamonds which I guess makes sense but I don't understand the call on 4th. He calls. I would think he might raise 3rd with split Js, maybe he's got 3 clubs and 3 to a straight, or 9TJQ. 5th Street - (1.90 BB) Seat 3: xx xx J Hero: Q I hit a pair of 5s open and I'm going to bet again. He folds, the 2h was a bad card for him. He calls. Not really sure what he could have here since he was the bring in. 6th Street - (2.90 BB) Vil 1: xx xx 2 Hero: 7 We both miss, but I'm still thinking my aces are best. River - (4.90 BB) Vil 1: xx xx 2 Hero: 7 I elect to check behind here instead of bet with just one pair. Admittedly though I was lost on this hand. Total pot: (4.90 BB) Vil 1: [Ah 3c 2d Ks 2h 6s Kc] (HI: two pair, Kings and Deuces) Hero: [7c Ac Qc 6d Ad 9c 3h] PokerStars does not shuffle the hole cards, so he actually did start with 1-2-3. I'm not sure if he was trying to trap on 3rd, but it's pretty funny because I played this hand almost perfectly given his holding. I didn't raise into his better starting hand on 3rd. I checked behind on 4th when his AK high had my AQ high beat. I bet on 5th and 6th when my aces were best, and checked behind on the river when he made his two pair. Tournament - 7 Card Stud High-Low - Level VIII (400/800), Ante 80, Bring-In 120 (converter) Seat 1: 1,274 Seat 2: 4,046 Seat 3: 9,073 Seat 4: 5,045 Seat 5: 2,247 Hero: 987 Seat 7: 5,030 Seat 8: 1,706 3rd Street - (1.60 SB) Seat 1: xx xx J Seat 2: xx xx 2 Seat 3: xx xx T Seat 4: xx xx 5 Vil 5: xx xx A Hero: 2 Seat 7: xx xx T Vil 8: xx xx 6 Up to level 8 at this point and if you look at the stacks I have to make something happen. An A raises in front of me, but I reraise with 2-3-4. A 6 behind us calls and the A calls. 4th Street - (7.90 SB) Vil 5: xx xx A Hero: 2 Vil 8: xx xx 6 I catch my 5 and even though an A is out and two 6s are out I gotta go with it. 5th Street - (4.35 BB) Vil 5: 3 Hero: 2 Vil 8: 8 6th Street - (6.15 BB) Vil 5: 3 Hero: 2 Vil 8: 8 CASE 6!!! I am the bring in and with the cards behind me I raise to try to take it down. 8 of course has to call. 4th Street - (3.20 SB) Vil 5: xx xx 8 Hero: 3 He only has 220 left so I put him all-in. 5th Street - (2.38 BB) Vil 5: 6 Hero: 3 6th Street - (2.38 BB) Vil 5: 6 Hero: 3 River - (2.38 BB) Vil 5: 6 Hero: 3 Total pot: (2.38 BB) Results Total pot 1720 Vil 5: [6c 2s 8s 7s 5d 9d Qs] (HI: a straight, Five to Nine; LO: 8,7,6,5,2) Hero: [3h 4c 3d 6s 3s 5h Ks] (HI: three of a kind, Threes) I made the correct play. Moving on. Tournament - 7 Card Stud High-Low - Level IX (500/1,000), Ante 100, Bring-In 150 (converter) Seat 3: 5,053 Seat 4: 7,475 Seat 5: 2,210 Hero: 2,646 Seat 7: 7,560 Seat 8: 698 3rd Street - (1.20 SB) Vil 3: xx xx 4 Seat 4: xx xx K Seat 5: xx xx J Hero: 5 Seat 7: xx xx Q Vil 8: xx xx 8 I raise this up with only a Q, 8, and the bring in behind me. All the 3s & 6s are live which is good. Can't steal it as I get two calls (with 8 being all-in). 4th Street - (4.79 SB) Vil 3: xx xx 4 Hero: 5 Vil 8: xx xx 8 5th Street - (2.39 BB) Vil 3: xx xx 4 Hero: xx xx 4 Vil 8: 9 Content to check it down getting close to the money. 6th Street - (2.39 BB) Vil 3: xx xx 4 Hero: xx xx 4 Vil 8: 9 Of course opponent no longer feels the same way and bets 1k. I have 1948 left so I put it in with my made low and straight draw. I would venture he has three 4s most likely. If he had a low he had it on 5th. River - (6.29 BB) Vil 3: 3 Hero: 5 Vil 8: 9 Total pot: (6.29 BB) Results (in white):[color:white] Total pot 6290 Main pot 2394. Side pot 3896. Vil 3: [3c 5s 4h 5h 7s 4c 9h] (HI: two pair, Fives and Fours) Hero: [5d 2d 4s Kh 3d 8s 3s] (HI: a pair of Threes; LO: 8,5,4,3,2) Vil 8: [9d 6s 8d 7c Jh 6h 5c] (HI: a straight, Five to Nine) So he made his two pair. I still win the low to stay in the tournament. Tournament - 7 Card Stud High-Low - Level IX (500/1,000), Ante 100, Bring-In 150 (converter) Seat 3: 5,477 Seat 4: 9,450 Seat 5: 1,560 Hero: 2,095 Seat 7: 7,060 3rd Street - (1.00 SB) Seat 3: xx xx 9 Seat 4: xx xx K Vil 5: xx xx 8 Hero: J Vil 7: xx xx A I'm the bring-in with wired Js and a 5 showing. I actually liked wired pairs in this game b/c if your opponents hit bad on 4th and you catch good you can represent. Also if I catch a 3rd J they will think I caught bad. 4th Street - (1.90 SB) Vil 5: xx xx 8 Hero: J Vil 7: xx xx A They hit babies so I elect to check, maybe I should charge them for the low draws but if I put another chip in the pot I might be committing myself. 5th Street - (0.95 BB) Vil 5: xx xx 8 Hero: J Vil 7: xx xx A Vil 7 hits open 6s, Vil 5 now may have a low. It's checked around. 6th Street - (0.95 BB) Vil 5: xx xx 8 Hero: J Vil 7: xx xx A He hits 3 6s. I think his most likely hand is trips with a low draw. Even though I'm dead to half the pot, I go with it here because I am almost positive I have the best high hand. River - (5.95 BB) Vil 5: 7 Hero: J Vil 7: 4 Total pot: (5.95 BB) Total pot 5950 Main pot 4880. Side pot 1070. Vil 5: [7d Ad 8d 5s 7h 3c 4s] (HI: a pair of Sevens; LO: 7,5,4,3,A) Hero: [Jh Js 5h 3s 8h Jd 4h] (HI: three of a kind, Jacks) Vil 7: [4c 3d As 6c 6s 6d Jc] (HI: three of a kind, Sixes) I get my half and move on. Bring in defends and seat 7 who initially calls will put in another bet as well. 4th Street - (4.00 SB) Seat 3: xx xx 7 Hero: A Vil 7: xx xx 5 Two calls on 4th. Seat 3 looked to have bricked, maybe hoping for a good 5th street, but seat 7 could have diamonds in the hole. 5th Street - (3.50 BB) Seat 3: xx xx 7 Hero: A Vil 7: xx xx 5 Seat 7 hits another diamond and another ace is gone, but I decide to bet again with a low draw. Seat 3 gets out. 6th Street - (5.50 BB) Hero: A Vil 7: xx xx 5 I brick. I check to see what he does. He checks back. River - (5.50 BB) Hero: A Vil 7: xx xx 5 I check-call with my low. Maybe could have raised, there's no way I'm scooped but I couldn't see any way I'm winning high at this point. He's got two Ks and 3 diamonds showing. Total pot: (7.50 BB) Hero: [Ah 3h As 8s 5h Qh 4s] (HI: a pair of Aces; LO: 8,5,4,3,A) Vil 7: [8d 2d 5d Kd Td Ks 9d] (HI: a flush, King high) He made his flush on 5th and sandbagged it. Terrible, terrible play and he let's me escape with low. At this point there's 9 players left, next person eliminated is the bubble boy. I had been folding and waiting for one of the two shorter stacks to go busto, but they kept winning pots. I was now the short stack. Here I get dealt K52 as the bring-in. I HAVE to put chips in the pot either way. I figure with what's out there I have a chance of taking it down. An A raises, and I know I'm toast, but I have to put the last 330 in. 4th Street - (4.41 SB) Vil 4: 5 Hero: K I catch kings but still behind his aces. 5th Street - (2.21 BB) Vil 4: 5 Hero: K Need a K, 5,4,2 or running low cards. 6th Street - (2.21 BB) Vil 4: 5 Hero: K No help.
